WiFi Cables & Cellular Cables: For Antennas, Accessories, and Devices Such as Hotspots & Signal Boosters.

Coaxial cables. Often overlooked, yet the most vital part of long-range networking link.

Choosing the right cable type with the right connector at the right length can significantly impact the performance of your connected system.

Because RF (radio frequency) signal is passing from the radio (router, hotspot, USB adaptor, signal booster, etc.) to the antenna, it inevitable loses signal strength over cable run, especially for thinner cables.

This is called attenuation. To combat this issue:

      • 1

Use the shortest cable run as possible.

      • 2

The thicker the cable diameter, the better signal is maintained through your network.

So which cables right for you? In general:

      1. Best:  L-400 Coax (0.4" diameter- almost 1/2")
      2. Better: L-240 Coax (0.24" diameter- almost 1/4")
      3. Good: L-195 Coax (0.2" diameter- 3/16")

          L-195 Cable Specs

The best cable for short runs up to 10 ft.
This cable is great for short pigtails, such as connecting an antenna to a thicker and longer cable run.
This cable is the most flexible; however also the most lossy.

How to Choose The Right Cable

It’s all about the cable run. Anything shorter than 10 ft, an L-195 is acceptable. Up to 20 ft, the L-240 is good. For anything above, 30 ft, the L-400 performs the best.

dB loss & gain is measured exponentially. A +3 or -3 dB equals to either doubling the power or doubling the loss. In the specs above, the L-400 at 40 ft performs about the same as a L-240 at 20 ft which is 2x the length.
